Scenic Lookout – Maalaea scuba colorful reef & plenty of fish best dive in this area & an excellent night dive intermediate divers 60 feet max depth at location year round diving — mornings are better hazards: occasional summer high surf & challenging trail down no facilities DIRECTIONS: Look for the signs, it will be obvious. Honanana Point – West Maui Backside scuba colorful reef & plenty of fish, rocks one of the island’s best dives intermediate to advanced divers wear a wetsuit 50 feet max depth at location diving in summer & fall — mornings are better hazards: hard walk down entry, winter high surf no facilities DIRECTIONS: Coming from Wailuku, turn right on a dirt road at exactly 16.33 miles. Head in, moving toward the left. Park at the edge of the cliff. Walk north on the path to the water. At the bottom, turn left and wade across a small inlet to a lava rock ledge facing a lava rock island. Kaihalulu “Red Sands” Beach – Hana snorkeling tons of reef fish beginner to advanced snorkelers 5 to 15 feet max depth inside break snorkeling in spring, summer & fall — mornings are better hazards: intense trail to the beach no facilities note: this is a nude beach DIRECTIONS: Take Hana Hwy.36 to Hana. Next to the Community Center on Ua Kea Rd., right before the entrance to the Hotel’s cottages, we walked through the open area toward the trees and found a trail that leads uphill past old Japanese grave markers, and then along the top of a very narrow ridge.

Black Rock – Kaanapali snorkeling & scuba, easy entry snorkel & dive around the point, close to the wall tons of fish beginner snorkelers & divers 30 feet max depth at location year round diving — mornings are better due to afternoon winds hazards: occasional winter high surf facilities: the hotels excellent spot for beginner’s night dive DIRECTIONS: Go to Kaanapali and head to the Sheraton Nahua Point/Five Graves – Makena scuba — follow the reef to the left moderate amount of fish & lots of turtles; caves & arches intermediate divers & advanced cave divers 40 to 50 feet max depth year round — mornings are better hazards: occasional summer high surf & cave hazards no facilities advice: avoid the caves if you’re not an experienced cave diver DIRECTIONS: Drive past the Makena Surf condos on your right and take the first street on your right. this is Makena Rd. Drive a couple hundred yards and you will se a small graveyard on your right. Park on the mountain side of road and walk down trail to entry. Nu’u Bay – Backside Maui scuba diving & snorkeling tons of fish, colorful vast reef — excellent visibility intermediate to advanced divers & snorkelers 110 feet max depth wear a wetsuit winter hazards: high summer surf and strong current no site faciilities advice: be sure to plan enough air to get back DIRECTION: Going the back way East to Hana on #31, find a metal gate at the 31 mile marker. It is one of a few not locked. Go thorough and re-hook the wire loop. Drive to parking area.
